Standard crane rail clips cover the majority of overhead crane and gantry crane installations. But when your runway geometry, load rating, or operating environment falls outside those boundaries, custom crane rail clips become the only viable path. This page explains what they are, when you need them, and how Xingrail delivers them, from your drawing to final shipment.

ToggleWhat Are Custom Crane Rail Clips?
A custom crane rail clip is any fastening clip designed and manufactured to a customer’s specific drawing or performance requirement rather than a published standard series. Unlike off-the-shelf options such as the 31-series or 32-series, a custom clip is defined by your rail section, flange width, toe pressure, and installation envelope.
Standard crane rail clips handle roughly 80% of global installations. Custom clips exist to solve the remaining 20%, non-standard rail sections, extreme loads, restricted bolt patterns, or retrofit scenarios where a standard clip simply will not fit.
When You Need a Custom Crane Rail Clip
Consider a custom rail clip when any of the following applies:
- Non-standard rail sections — CR, A-series, QU, or ASCE rails with atypical flange widths outside published crane rail clip specifications
- Extreme loads — single-clip toe pressure above 200 t, or dynamic fatigue requirements beyond standard grades
- Restricted geometry — reduced headroom, narrow beam flange, or proximity to end stops
- Harsh environments — high-temperature foundry cranes, sub-zero cold-storage runways, or corrosive chemical plants
- Retrofit interchangeability — replacement clips that must match an existing bolt pattern from another supplier
If you are unsure whether a standard solution exists, the rail clips configurator can shortlist matching series before you commit to a custom project.
Custom vs Standard: A Quick Comparison
| Standard | Custom | |
|---|---|---|
| Lead time | 3–7 days (stock) | 4–8 weeks |
| MOQ | 10 pcs | 50–200 pcs |
| Tooling cost | None | One-time die cost |
| Tolerance | Catalogue spec | Drawing spec |
| Best for | Routine replacement | Non-standard project |
Manufacturing Process: Forging, Casting and Machining
Xingrail produces custom forged rail clips from 42CrMo and 35CrMo alloy steel. Closed-die forging delivers superior fatigue strength and is the preferred route for heavy-duty crane runways. For geometrically complex profiles, such as clips used on foundry cranes, investment casting is the right process. All clips receive post-forge or post-cast machining to achieve the dimensional tolerances on your drawing.
Surface treatments include mill black, hot-dip galvanizing, and Dacromet coating. Heat treatment (quench and temper) is applied to all structural grades to reach the required hardness range.

From Drawing to Delivery
Our custom workflow runs in seven steps:
- Drawing & duty review — you submit a dimensioned drawing plus operating loads
- Feasibility & tolerance audit — engineers confirm forgeability and GD&T compliance
- Quotation & MOQ agreement — unit price, tooling cost, and delivery schedule confirmed
- Prototype fabrication — first article produced and shipped for trial-fit
- First Article Inspection (FAI) — hardness, dimensions, and load verified before bulk release
- Bulk production — closed-die forging or casting with in-process QC
- Batch inspection & shipment — hardness, dimension, and proof-load sampling per agreed AQL

OEM & Private-Label Crane Rail Clips
We supply made-to-order crane rail clips under your brand. Services include customer-specified steel stamps, private-label packaging, batch traceability records, and NDA protection for your drawings. OEM programs are available for distributors, crane OEMs, and engineering contractors who require a consistent branded supply.

How to Request a Quote
To receive an accurate quotation, please provide:
- Dimensioned drawing (PDF or DWG/DXF)
- Rail section and foot-flange width
- Design toe pressure per clip (kN or t)
- Available installation space (slot width, bolt pitch)
- Required material grade and surface treatment
- Annual quantity and target delivery date
Use the rail weight calculator to confirm your rail section before submitting an enquiry.

FAQs
Q1: What counts as a custom crane rail clip?
Any clip manufactured to a customer-supplied drawing or a performance specification outside a published standard series, including non-standard rail profiles, unusual loads, or unique installation geometry.
Q2: Can you manufacture crane rail clips from our drawings?
Yes. Submit a dimensioned drawing and we will review forgeability, tolerances, and material grade, then issue a quotation with a prototype timeline.
Q3: Do you offer OEM or private-label crane rail clips?
Yes. We support full OEM programs: customer steel stamps, branded packaging, batch traceability, and NDA protection for your design files.
Q4: What is the MOQ and lead time for custom clips?
Prototype: 4–6 weeks, 1–5 pcs. Bulk: 6–8 weeks from FAI approval; MOQ is typically 50–200 pcs depending on tooling complexity.
Q5: Should I choose forged or cast clips?
Forged clips (42CrMo) suit high-cycle fatigue loads on standard crane runways. Cast clips suit complex geometries or high-temperature environments. Our engineers recommend the right route after reviewing your drawing.
